CANSA honours Madiba Day with remembrance walk

At no cost to participate, event organisers will welcome donations

THE Richards Bay CANSA Care Centre will be hosting a remembrance walk in commemoration of Nelson Mandela Day, and the community is invited to participate in the virtual event on 18 July.

At no cost to participate, event organisers will welcome donations to remember those loved ones who have lost the battle against cancer, and celebrate those who survived.

Zululanders can join in by registering and families will receive five luminaria bags (remembrance memorabilia) and candles which can be collected from the care centre or a volunteer in your area.

Families can do a 2km walk in their communities anytime between 3pm-5pm on the day and participate in a luminaria ceremony (lighting of the bags) at 6pm across Zululand in the comfort of their homes.

Participants can send photos and videos to be shared on the CANSA Richards Bay Facebook page.

Later in the month, from 25 July to 1 August, the organisation will also host a virtual Boardwalkathon event in which entrants can complete a 5km walk or run.
