AS violent water-related protest action has taken parts of the King Cetshwayo district by storm this week, Mhlathuze Water today (Wednesday) issued a statement saying it has no involvement in the unrest.

The protests, which saw the R66, R34, R102 and P230 roads blocked by burning debris on Monday and Tuesday, and eShowe virtually under siege as access to Goedertrouw Dam was closed off, led to King Cetshwayo District Mayor Nonhle Mkhulisi, as well as ANC regional chairperson of the Musa Dladla Region, Mduduzi Mhlongo, addressing community concerns.

‘We want to categorically clarify that Mhlathuze Water is not involved in the protests.

‘Already, we have found ourselves negatively affected by the protest action as our employees were denied access to our Madungela and Mkhalazi pump stations, which supply water to the Goedertrouw Dam,’ said Mhlathuze Water CEO, MP Duze.

He said the water utility hopes for a speedy resolution to the current impasse.
