Madiba Day festival of music online

MUSIC lovers, make sure your Wi-Fi is uncapped and your diary is clear, because this Saturday will offer a big treat – a 24-hour, free-to-view music festival in aid of Madiba Day.

Zululand icons Qadasi & Maqhinga, as well as other artists from around the country – and the world – have joined forces in the spirit of ubuntu and freedom of expression.

Each dedicating 67 minutes to spreading a message of hope, freedom, resilience and unity, AFREEFEST is not to be missed.

South Africa artists Themba, Qadasi & Maqhinga, Abby Nurock, Sibusile Xaba and Black Picket Fence will share the virtual stage with international musicians such as John Fairhurst (UK), My Baby (Netherlands) and more.

During this global pandemic and associated worldwide shutdown, the AFREEFEST virtual music festival was designed with the aim of bringing the world together through song and messages of inspiration.

The platform was created to share cultural experiences in art, music and creativity.

Each musician will share a 67-second message of inspiration with the world.

‘2020 is proving to be a year of difficulty for many of us. It is also a year that is seeing a lot of change, both positive and negative.

‘The festival was created to give fans of music, art and creativity a space in which they can pause, breathe and connect with themselves and others,’ said the festival organisers.

The festival will go online on Mandela Day (18 July) from midnight CAT (Central African Time) until 11.59pm and will be aired on AFREEFEST.com, SkyRoomLive and the SkyRoomLive Facebook page.

While the event is free, viewers are encouraged to donate what they can – a modern day Live Aid if you will.

Donations will go towards several charitable efforts.
