More than 50 vehicles burnt in arson attack at Vryheid police pound
Of the vehicles gutted by fire, 19 were exhibits in pending cases
VRYHEID police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property after 51 vehicles at a police pound, were burnt beyond recognition recently.
The cost of the damage is estimated to be around R2 350 000.

Zululand Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Nkosie Gwala, said that 32 broken down police vehicles and 19 vehicles that were kept in the police pound as exhibits for pending cases, were completely destroyed.
According to Captain Gwala, a witness, who was the security guard on duty, said he noticed thick smoke coming from the other side of the pound.
‘When he rushed to investigate, he saw the huge blaze, and then two suspects running out of the pound.
‘Firefighters were called to put out the fire, but 51 vehicles had already been destroyed.
‘A case of malicious damage to property was opened for investigation, but no arrest has been made at this stage.’
