The police report indicates that a woman was assaulted by a known suspect, roped and dragged behind his vehicle, and then dumped in the bushes near the roadside, left for dead.
The 38-year-old victim claims that she suffered serious injuries all over her body, and is now confined to a wheelchair.
Recalling the incident, the victim said, ‘We were arguing over something and he started beating me badly. After the beatings, he roped me behind his bakkie and dragged me on a dusty, gravel road.
‘I cried and screamed for help, and begged for mercy, but he continued driving. All my clothes were torn off and I was left wearing only a bra.
‘No one came to my rescue. When I realised that his intention was to kill me, I decided to fake death. He saw I was motionless, so he stopped his bakkie, untied me, dumped me in the bushes, and sped off.’
The victim added that she waited in the bushes until she heard nearby voices.
‘I shouted for help and crawled out from the bushes. I spent six weeks in Ngwelezana Hospital.
‘I suffered wounds on my knees, feet, back and body. I can’t walk and have to use a wheelchair. I don’t think I will be able to walk again,’ she said.
King Cetshwayo Cluster Police Spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, said a case of attempted murder was registered at Empangeni SAPS.
‘No arrest has been made at this stage,’ said Mdlalose. ‘We believe that Mthembu is the key witness in the case and can assist us in solving it. We urge him, or anyone who knows his whereabouts, to contact the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Victor Khoza, on 082 5570773.’
