Beach clean-up to serve Richards Bay community

MEMBERS of Richards Bay Christian Fellowship (RCF) on Sunday took to Pelican Island for the church’s inaugural beach clean-up.
By the end of the morning, 50 rubbish bags had been filled with litter from both the beach and surrounds, including in and around the dunes and trees.

Used and discarded nappies and sanitary towels were among the items collected, as were cool drink bottles, both glass and plastic, alcohol bottles, cigarette packs and butts, plastic cutlery, straws and even children’s beach toys, both broken and not.
Also included in the items picked up off the beach itself was a knife.
‘We came together on Sunday for the beach clean-up to serve the community in which we live, and to serve God by taking care of what He has given us,’ said Lesley Roelofse on behalf of RCF.
‘It is also to leave a lasting inheritance to our children and future generations.
‘We may be unable to fellowship owing to social distancing, but coming together in small numbers like this to serve our community is something we are still able to do.’
The RCF beach clean-up will become a regular event and is open to members of the public who would like to join.
