Lipstick takes a back seat
Women now focus more on making their eyebrows and eyelashes pop
SINCE wearing face masks has become the new normal, there has been a dramatic drop in the use of lipstick.
With everyone forced to wear a mask in public, more women are now focused on enhancing other facial features, such as eyebrows and eyelashes.

‘We have our masks on most of the time, so there is no point in wasting money on lipstick,’ said Nozipho Luthuli.
Another reason some say is because of the messy results.
‘It doesn’t matter whether you wear a disposable paper mask or a washable mask, the lipstick smears on the mask and then all around the mouth,’ said model, Noxolo Mnguni.
Some women have decided to only focus on their eyebrows and eyelashes.
‘The focus is now on the top part of one’s face, which means our eyebrows and lashes have to be on point. We also focus on wearing nail polish,’ said Gugu Simelane.
Others have simply scrapped make-up altogether while still others apply a small amount of lip gloss.
‘This is to keep the lips moisturised, especially because we are still in winter.’
Beauty therapist Khanyie Khalishwayo of Beauty Within Khanyie, said her business has taken a knock as fewer people come in for facial treatments.
‘Apart from being scared to come to the beauty shop, some just don’t see the need to do their faces at this time,’ she said.
