Mthonjaneni Municipality reaches out to veld fire victims

Thirty-two homesteads were affected by the fire and most victims could not save their belongings

THE Mthonjaneni Municipality provided victims of a veld fire with groceries, blankets and other necessary goods last week.

Thirty-two homesteads were affected by the fire last weekend, and most victims could not save their belongings.

‘Even though we don’t have budget allocations for such disasters, we decided we had to assist the affected families.

‘Most of the victims lost everything and some are living with their neighbours because all their homes were destroyed,’ said Mayor Sibonginkosi Biyela.

He said it was still not clear how the fire started.
