Richards Bay blood bank calls for donors
There is an increased demand for blood in hospitals, which has led to a national shortage
THE South African National Blood Service (SANBS) in Richards Bay is calling on blood donors to donate this weekend amid a national shortage of blood.
‘At Level 2, demand for blood has increased in hospitals,’ said the SANBS this (Friday) morning.

‘This has led to a shortage of blood in South Africa. Don’t let one crisis turn into another.’
Current blood stock levels nationwide are at 3.6 days while plasma levels are at 0.4 days.
O negative is most in need, at only 36% capacity, while the other blood types are at 60% capacity or above.
For those wanting to donate blood in Richards Bay, the blood bank, located at the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre, is open today from 9am to 4.30pm, tomorrow from 8.30am to 1.30pm, and again next week.
