A FUNERAL parlour is one of the latest businesses to fall victim to crime in Empangeni.
At around 4pm on Monday, three men entered the business premises pretending to be clients.

They later pulled out firearms which they aimed at the receptionist and security guards.
The petrified victims were forced into the back office where they were instructed to lie on the ground while the men ransacked the supervisor’s office.
The perpetrators made off with cash amounting to almost R20 000.
No arrests have been made.
Police, Community Policing Forums, and security companies have increased vigilance in high-risk areas of Empangeni due to the spike in business crime.
Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairperson, Thami Sithole, told the ZO that the high crime rate could deter more business owners from investing in the area.
‘With an increase of four per cent in district unemployment, we are facing an increase in local crime.
‘This will have some impact on the appetite for the investor. However, the district does have some investments lined up that should improve the sentiment regarding stability in the area.’
