Ulundi was brought to a standstill in the early hours of this (Monday) morning when a group of about 3 000 community members blockaded roads in and out of the town.
The roads were blocked with burning tyres and other debris as the protesters demanded action be taken against police officers who are accused of beating a taxi driver to death last week.
This morning’s riots were preceded by protest action last night in which five people were arrested and charged with public violence.
