IFP calls for unemployment to be addressed

IN commemorating World Teacher’s Day recently, the IFP has challenged the government to address the issue of unemployed teacher graduates.

IFP KZN education spokesperson, Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa, said it was time teachers receive the recognition they deserve.

‘In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, our teachers were, and continue to be, at the forefront of this crisis.

‘Many have lost their lives in the line of duty and we commend them for their dedication,’ she said.

Madlopha-Mthethwa added that Teacher’s Day should serve as a wake-up call to government to ensure all the challenges facing teachers were addressed as a matter of urgency.

‘More unemployed teachers should be recruited, not only those who have acquired their qualifications through government bursaries such as Fundza Lushaka.

‘All qualified teachers, including those who are sent to tertiary institutions by their families, must be employed.

‘Teachers remain important figures in our society and their role is crucial.

‘They play a major role in the lives of children during their formative years,’ Madlopha-Mthethwa said.
