Death toll rises in R66 taxi accident

The road remains closed as emergency services personnel are busy clearing the debris.

The death toll from this (Wednesday) morning’s horror accident on the R66 between Ulundi and Melmoth has risen to 16 people, including an unborn child.

KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Bheki Ntuli, has arrived to assess the scene of the tragic collision between a minibus taxi and truck.

The road remains closed as emergency services personnel are busy clearing the debris.

Paramedics this morning declared 13 people dead at the scene, while five were taken to KwaMagwaza Hospital in Melmoth in a critical condition.

Two of the injured succumbed to their injuries en route to hospital.
