THERE is still no response from Minister of Education Blade Nzimande regarding University of Zululand issues raised by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) two weeks ago.

The union handed over a memorandum and gave Nzimande 10 days to respond to their demands.

Topping the demand list was the removal of the institution’s vice-chancellor, the restoration of the Student Representative Council (SRC), as well as forensic investigations into several matters.

They further demanded the university withdraws the dismissals of students and workers.

The safety of students living off-campus was another important issue raised.

According to the union’s regional secretary, Thulani Mthembu, the union is unhappy about the lack of response.

‘We are concerned that after so many days we have not received any response, but a meeting will be held tonight (Wednesday) to discuss further steps.’
