A 'most-wanted' attempted murder suspect was apprehended after a high-speed car chase along the N2
A ‘MOST-WANTED’ attempted murder suspect was apprehended after a high-speed car chase along the N2 which saw him crashing through the Mtunzini Toll Plaza boom gate, before hitting a guard rail, on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old suspect was arrested for malicious damage to property and the illegal possession of a firearm, appearing at Mtunzini Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

His eventual arrest followed a tip-off supplied during a police operation in the King Cetshwayo District.
According to police reports, the suspect is alleged to have shot an individual at Macekane Reserve on Tuesday, 25 August.
‘It is alleged that a 25-year-old man was shot and wounded by a known suspect in Macekane,’ said police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thembeka Mbhele.
‘The victim was rushed to hospital for medical attention.’
Mbhele said that on Wednesday afternoon the suspect’s vehicle was spotted on the N2 freeway.
When police tried to stop him, he sped away, during which time he crashed through the toll booth before fleeing the vehicle into nearby bushes.
A search was initiated and he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, and arrested.
‘He was remanded in police custody for further investigation, and is expected to appear next week Thursday for a formal bail application.’
Mbhele said the suspect will be re-arrested by Empangeni SAPS for the attempted murder charge.
