Increased traffic flow along north coast shoreline

Most of the deep sea anglers are launching off Cape Vidal and Sodwana Bay, and have returned with overflowing hatches

AS usual, the north coast has seen bumper traffic all along its coastline owing to the abundant species currently on the bite.

Most of the deep sea lads are launching off Cape Vidal and Sodwana Bay, and have returned with overflowing hatches that have been filled with couta, tuna, dorado and sailfish.

The most successful method has been live bait.

The key is to find the right depth in order to get consistent results.

Find the correct depth by testing sinkers: rig a number of rods with bait, with different weight sinkers.

For example use an unweighted bait on one rod, and a 2oz, 4oz and a 6oz sinker on other rods.

Drop your baits in the water and once you start to get consistent bites, switch all rods to that depth in order to maximise the bites.

For anglers looking to open up their summer account, the upper section of KZN has been the place to go.

Get a fresh mackerel and you should be in for all money.

When targeting sharks or rays, strap a head bait with some cutlets and cast it in.

Tugela has been the most consistent spot for edible action.

The chokka and sardine baits have been the most productive for the kob and shad up there.
