Body found in Tugela River

There were several crocodiles in the vicinity of the body

THE badly decomposed body of a woman was this weekend retrieved from the Tugela River by SAPS Search and Rescue after having received a call-out from a member of the public who initially saw the body floating in the river.

Empangeni Search and Rescue, together with K9 Search and Rescue Empangeni and Durban attended to the scene, in the Maphumulo SAPS area.

Several crocodiles were found to be in the vicinity of the body, but the officers managed to recover the victim from between the rocks and carried the body the 1km back to their vehicles.

The identity of the woman is unknown and the body was in a bad state of decomposition.

Investigations are under way.
