Farewell to Reverend John Comninos

AFTER three years of ministering in Richards Bay, Reverend John Comninos is moving to Cape Town

AFTER three years of ministering in Richards Bay, Reverend John Comninos of the Presbyterian Church in Arboretum, is moving to Cape Town where he will take up a position at the Bellville Presbyterian Church.

Before moving to Richards Bay, he had ministered at various churches for more than three decades.

A special interest in helping those suffering from emotional distress and trauma saw him working, for some time, at a rehabilitation centre specialising in treating addictions.

In his heartfelt goodbye, he expressed gratitude for the love and support he has witnessed within this community.

‘I have found the community of Richards Bay invigorating and also replete with needs – needs to be loved and cared for,’ said Reverend Comninos.

‘The pandemic and lockdown have hit this community hard, and the impact has been widespread, from death to financial devastation.

‘What has, however, been apparent, is the pulling together of the community, serving alongside the vulnerable and those who have had great loss.’

He extended his gratitude to congregation members who have walked with him during his time at the local church.

‘The last few years have not been easy for the community and, as I have walked alongside you, I have become aware of two things; the fragility and vulnerability of life in this community, and the power of the love of Jesus within you all.

‘I pray for you and think of you all each day. I am aware of a multitude of difficulties that each of you have suffered, and your resilience in the face of everything.

‘I want to thank you for allowing me into your lives and for being so transparent about the important things in your lives,’ he said.
