Mtubatuba suspected burglar arrested while hiding out in toilet

It is believed the suspect's plan was to steal vehicles from the business premises

A QUICK response from Mtubatuba police on Friday stopped a burglar in his tracks, preventing him from stealing the vehicles it was believed he had his eye on.

The break-in occurred at a business premises in Mimosa Avenue in Mtubatuba town, just before 11pm.

According to police records, local SAPS officers were alerted to the scene and responded immediately.

Upon arrival, police officers noticed that the sliding door to the premises had been damaged and used as an entry.

A search of the premises was conducted and the suspect (35) was found hiding in the toilet where he had locked himself in.

When the suspect was arrested, a set of vehicle keys was found in his possession.

‘It is suspected the man broke into the premises with the intention of stealing vehicles,’ said KZN SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele.

The suspect was arrested, charged with burglary and is expected to appear at the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court today (Monday).

The KZN Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula praised all involved in arresting the suspect.
