Stop spreading fake theories – Ulundi mayor warns community

Many people are becoming frustrated about fake news being circulated on various social media platforms

ULUNDI Mayor Wilson Ntshangase has urged community members to stop spreading fake news about Covid-19 on social media platforms, as it creates unnecessary anxiety.

He said untested claims about a link between the coronavirus and 5G technology, for example, simply cause confusion and give rise to conspiracy theories.

‘Many people are becoming frustrated about fake news being circulated on various WhatsApp groups and other social media platforms,’ said Ntshangase.

‘But what I do know as a community leader is that a large number of people roaming our streets are not wearing masks.

‘This is a clear indication that some residents have decided to ignore Covid-19 protocols put into place by the government,’ he said.

Ntshangase added that Covid-19 is a deadly virus and many people have lost their lives.

‘We must keep on washing our hands regularly, wear our masks every time we leave our homes and continue to observe social distancing. Let us not put our lives and those of others in danger by failing to adhere to these protocols.’
