IFP national spokesperson, Mkhuleko Hlengwa, said the arrival of the vaccine was a milestone for the country and a welcome relief for the more than 1.2 million frontline health workers who have endured the most challenging conditions during the Covid-19 pandemic.
‘While we welcome the arrival of the vaccine, we wish to appeal to Dr Mkhize to proactively ensure that the Department of Health exercises a zero-tolerance approach towards any form of corruption, or any person trying to undermine the successful roll-out of this vaccine.
‘We will closely monitor the implementation of the first phase of the vaccine roll-out process to ensure fairness and to ensure that those scheduled to receive their inoculations receive it,’ Hlengwa said.
He also cleared the air regarding the health status of IFP founding President, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
‘After an unfortunate error on a call-in radio show at the weekend, a rumour emerged that Prince Buthelezi MP had passed away. We wish to reassure everyone that he is alive and well.’
