The ANC in KZN mourns the death of the King Cetshwayo District Municipal mayor, Cllr Nonhle Mkhulisi, who succumbed to Covid-19 related complications last night (Wednesday).

ANC Provincial spokesperson, Nhlakanipho Ntombela, said Mkhulisi served the nation with diligence as a member of the National Assembly since 2009, and was a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature, before joining King Cetshwayo District Municipality.
‘She was one of the most dedicated and humble yet combat-ready political leaders, who stood firm in her convictions.
‘This is a huge loss for the ANC and communities she worked with. Mkhulisi was a former ANC and ANC Women’s League chairperson of Musa Dladla Region. At the time of her death, she was chairperson of the KwaZulu-Natal chapter of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA).
‘She distinguished herself in many capacities. She contributed immensely to the liberation movement where she was fighting for women’s equality in society.
‘She leaves a huge void that will be hard to fill in her own family and in the ANC.
‘She championed the cause of the working class, while she was a member of the South African National Democratic Teachers’ Union where she served as National Executive Committee member (SADTU),’ he said.
King Cetshwayo District Municipality Communications Senior Manager, Vusi Mahaye, said Mkhulisi was a dedicated leader, and a committed freedom fighter.
‘She championed a number of good causes, from community development, organised labour, and fought for women’s and children’s rights.
‘She led the fight against the coronavirus until her last breath. She commanded the district structure that was tasked with responsibilities to co-ordinate all initiatives to curb the spread of this global pandemic,’ Mahaye said.
