Covid-19 cases drop in Richards Bay ward 26 communities
'While we are happy that numbers are down, we do not want members of the community to become complacent'

The significant drop in Covid-19 cases in Aquadene and Brackenham has been a welcome relief to community workers who have been working hard to promote awareness and prevention in the communities of ward 26.
Brackenham Community Clinic Committee Chairperson Mandy Michaels said they were relieved to see cases drop rapidly in the past two weeks.
There has also been a decline in the number of people requesting for the tracing teams to visit their homes.
‘Calls to my cell phone have completely come to a halt and even the tracing teams followed up with me last week to assess the situation as the number of callers had decreased significantly.
‘While we are happy that numbers are down, we do not want members of the community to become complacent or to neglect to adhere to wearing a mask and social distancing as the virus is still spreading.
‘We are aware of the third wave and want people to take this warning very seriously as the war with this virus is not over yet.
‘When community members go for testing we urge them to continue to isolate and if they receive positive test results, they must immediately inform those who they have been in contact with to go for testing as well.
They must also make contact with us to arrange for tracing teams to visit the residences.
‘We appreciate that our senior citizens and chronic patients have responded to our call to send their younger relatives to collect their medication on their behalf; this has been working well to keep our patients who are at risk safer,’ she said.
Those who have tested positive in the ward and would like to request tracing teams to visit their residence can contact Mandy on 071 1099351, or to request testing at home, phone 035 9017298.
Meanwhile, adding to the prevention and awareness efforts in the ward, community leader Sandra Naidoo recently facilitated the distribution of Covid-19 pamphlets which were circulated through a service provider to each home in Brackenham and Aquadene.
The aim was to provide the community with information on how to stay safe during the pandemic and how to take preventative measures against contracting the virus.
