Bay SAPS phone lines down

SAPS Communications Officer Captain Debbie Ferreira apologised to the community for the inconvenience caused and said their telephone systems were damaged owing to the ongoing power outages and that the station was in the process of replacing the system.

TELEPHONE lines at the Richards Bay police station remain out of order.

This marks the third week that the local SAPS has been without operational landline communication systems.

SAPS Communications Officer Captain Debbie Ferreira apologised to the community for the inconvenience caused and said their telephone systems were damaged owing to the ongoing power outages and that the station was in the process of replacing the system.

‘The 10111 number is in place for all emergencies and the station is looking at establishing cellphone numbers for each department to attend to calls or enquiries.

‘We regret that it has been a challenge for members of the public to contact the offices to enquire about firearms, cases and other matters.

‘Members of the public must also take note that the sms they receive with their CAS number will also include their investigating officer’s details.

The landline number, however, will not be available.

‘The matter is being attended to and we hope to have our lines up and running soon,’ said Ferreira.
