They appeared in the Vryheid Magistrate’s Court on Monday and were remanded in police custody pending further investigation.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, said the four will now join two co-accused arrested earlier.

‘A case of armed robbery and assault with grievous bodily harm were registered at Hlobane SAPS on 1 December. ‘Hlobane police responded to a robbery in Mzinyathi where a group of armed suspects robbed a victim in the KwaMnyathi area.

‘At gunpoint, the suspects stole six chainsaws, 65 litres of petrol and 60 litres of oil. Hlobane police were given information about the suspects’ whereabouts and officers conducted a special roadblock.

The suspects were spotted and stopped. Six men disembarked from the vehicle with firearms and disarmed two female police officers.

One of the police officers was injured and rushed to hospital for medical attention.

‘Two suspects, aged 30 and 32, were later arrested and the police firearms recovered by the police,’ Mbhele said.
