Richards Bay FC goalkeeper heading to Barcelona?
The approach by agents of the Spanish La Liga giants was confirmed by NRB head coach, Simo Dladla.
While the national soccer selectors have overlooked the outstanding performances of Richards Bay FC goalkeeper Malcolm Jacobs, no less a superstar-studded club than Barcelona is showing interest in the experienced stopper.
The approach by agents of the Spanish La Liga giants was confirmed this (Thursday) morning by NRB head coach, Simo Dladla.
‘They have taken notice of our run of 15 unbeaten National First Division games, and especially the number of clean sheets Malcolm has kept.
‘Goalkeepers are always in high demand – but as much as they might want him, we need him even more and won’t let him go cheaply.
‘In fact – and I am deadly serious in saying this – if they want him that badly, we can either talk big money or we are prepared to do a straight swap for Lionel Messi.
‘After all, his future at Barca is limited and he is looking for new challenges.’ Dladla said negotiations are ongoing. ‘I will be talking again with the agents later today.
‘I don’t think the general public realises how many international scouts operate in Africa, seeking our best talent – and obviously their most lucrative buys are in the minor leagues where transfer fees will be lower.
Meanwhile, Jacobs says his head won’t be turned by the Barcelona interest and the possibility of playing at Camp Nou.
‘I’m flattered, but I keep my feet firmly on the ground. If it happens, it happens; but I have a massive job to do here.
‘I have to play my part in keeping Richards Bay at the top of the table and winning PSL promotion at the end of the season.’
