A JEALOUS man on Sunday committed suicide after stabbing to death his ex-girlfriend and leaving her 19-month-old baby daughter with serious stab wounds. The deceased’s aunt, Nomusa Mathe (41) told the Zululand Observer that  Nqobile was declared dead at the scene, while the child was rushed to the Benedictine Hospital for treatment.

‘There was blood all over her and the baby. I had to remove the child from the back of Nqobile’s lifeless body and when I cleaned the baby I discovered she had a bad stab wound on the head. One of our neighbours immediately rushed her to the hospital,’ Mathe said.

Mathe said that before the attack, she was shocked when she saw Sibiya standing outside the homestead.

‘He asked me to call Nqobile, but I refused and ordered him to leave. He refused.

‘I told Nqobile about it as she went outside the house to fetch water from the water tank.

‘After a short while we heard her screaming in agony. We rushed outside to investigate and saw Sibiya repeatedly stabbing her and dragging her around on the ground.

The child was still attached to her back.

‘As we rushed to help her, Sibiya picked up stones and tried to stone us. When he saw community members approaching to join us, he ran away,’ Mathe said.

Zululand cluster police spokesperson, Captain Nkosie Gwala, said a case of murder and attempted murder has been registered at Nongoma SAPS for investigation.

‘On Monday, police found Sibiya hanging from a tree in the veld not far from his home.’
