Postal delivery woes for Richards Bay residents

The non-delivery of mail for over four months has caused no end of frustration to residents of Rooi Els Street in Arboretum

The non-delivery of mail for over four months has caused no end of frustration to residents of Rooi Els Street in Arboretum, Richards Bay.

This after the residents, whose mail is delivered to their home addresses, experienced the same problem for six months last year shortly after the commencement of lockdown Level 5.

One affected resident has had creditors hounding him over accounts he has not been able to pay as he has not received them.

‘After not receiving post for more than six months from the beginning of Level 5 lockdown last year, we all suddenly received large piles of mail,’ said the resident.

‘We then stopped receiving post again four months ago, and it is once again causing major issues as I am receiving calls from creditors asking me to pay their bills which I am unable to pay as I have not even received them.’

South African Post Office communications officer, Nobuhle Njapha said the lack of postal delivery was caused by financial difficulties which meant the salaries of the delivery agents responsible for the area were delayed.

These agents have since been paid and reportedly resumed delivering mail on Tuesday.
