Prepare for some more drama as South African production houses introduce more shows
IF you are a fan of roller-coaster drama and romantic story lines filled with bizarre moments such as swapped babies, love triangles and evil characters, then prepare for some more drama as South African production houses introduce more shows.
South Africans will be spoiled for choice this year as prime time TV will see the introduction of new shows, with old, familiar faces alongside new stars making their debuts.

On Mzansi Magic, the 8.30pm weekend slot occupied by Isibaya for more than eight years, has been replaced by the new telenovela, Diep City.
Diep City is produced by award-winning director Mandla N of Black Brain Productions.
It’s a fresh new telenovela that explores the struggle of four young women trying to make their way in the world. The show focuses on disillusioned young women who were forced into crime while in high school, to make ends meet.
It features renowned actress Dawn Thandeka King, Nozuko Ncayiyane and actor Mduduzi Mabaso, among others.
SABC 3 has introduced a new glamour soapie, The Estate, with a stellar cast including Sdumo Mtshali, Clementine Mosimane and Dineo Moeketsi Langa.
The telenovela focuses on a so-called gated suburban haven called Echelon Estate – an eight-metre high brick walled golf estate called home to the wealthiest families in the neighbourhood – and struggling middle class families battling to keep up.
The ‘perfect’ suburban life comes crashing down as the battle for land hits too close to home.
The Estate has to fight a land claim from the neighbouring Thembalethu township community.
An issue very relevant in South Africa, the show also deals with other topics such as issues of identity, dishonesty, truth, love and corruption and their consequences.
On 1 Magic, veteran actor Patrick Mofokeng and Thuli Thabethe lead a strong cast in the brand new telenovela Lingashoni, produced by Stained Glass.
The show tells a tale of a poverty-stricken farm worker who returns to his former life as a high-flying businessman after a decade-long memory loss.
Season 5 of Rockville from Ferguson Films also returned to Mzansi Magic on Sundays.
