Questions answered regarding ‘missing’ municipal furniture

Umlalazi Municipality has cleared up questions surrounding the alleged mysterious disappearance of old municipal furniture

Umlalazi Municipality has cleared up questions surrounding the alleged mysterious disappearance of old municipal furniture.

According to a statement issued by the municipality, all furniture purchased by the former Mtunzini Town Board is still intact and stored at another municipal facility.

The news of the ‘missing’ furniture came to light when the local tourism association apparently approached the municipality, requesting the furniture to be donated to them.

The furniture was apparently purchased by the old town board before its amalgamation with uMlalazi Municipality, and for years it was stored in an unused office and boardroom.

However, according to uMlalazi communications manager Mkhuseli ‘Chaos’ Buthelezi, no formal request was sent by the association requesting the municipality to donate the furniture.

‘According to the asset management policy, it’s only the council that can make a decision whether to donate it to an organisation or to advertise it to be auctioned.

Sales and donations get documented in the municipal database.

‘Municipal furniture can’t just be sold without a council resolution, but it was moved into another building,’ said Buthelezi.
