Luminaria ceremony shines for cancer awareness
Members of the public are invited to participate in the function at the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre parking area
To honour and celebrate cancer survivors, and to remember those who have lost the battle to the disease, the Richards Bay CANSA Care House and Centre’s Relay for Life committee is hosting a Luminaria Ceremony tomorrow (Saturday) in Richards Bay.
Members of the public are invited to participate in the function from 6 pm to 7.30 pm at the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre parking area next to Standard Bank, and show their support for CANSA.
Cancer survivors are invited to participate in a motorcade at the event.
To build up momentum to the annual Relay for Life (RFL) which takes place later in the year, this Luminaria Ceremony is significant as it is also a highlight at RFL.
Personally decorated luminaria bags form the outline of the track and candles placed in each bag are lit after dark at the beginning of this inspirational and emotional ceremony.
The candles burn throughout the night as a reminder of the fight against cancer.
Luminaria bags and glow sticks can be bought from the CANSA Care Home and Care Centre, and bags can be decorated for the special person you wish to remember, or for whom you want to light a candle of hope.
Luminaria bags are R20 (including candle), while glow sticks cost R10 each.
If you are a cancer survivor and would like to participate in the motorcade, contact Sipheleliswe Mabaso on 079 6293542 or smabaso@cansa.org.za or Lorraine Watt on 083 6686130 to register your details.
