Defective traffic lights pose a danger

Commuters travelling between Empangeni and Richards Bay are becoming increasingly frustrated over the number of defective traffic lights on the John Ross highway.

COMMUTERS travelling between Empangeni and Richards Bay are becoming increasingly frustrated over the number of defective traffic lights on the John Ross highway.

The Woodchip Glade traffic lights have been defective since the beginning of March. Motorists using this intersection either only slightly slow down or simply speed through without thought of the potential consequences.

Some motorists have come close to being rear-ended when they come to a complete stop in treating the intersection as a four-way stop.

The Foskor traffic lights have been defective since late last week, and this too has caused traffic issues and chaos on the John Ross during rush hour as many motorists refuse to treat the intersection as a four-way stop.

City of uMhlathuze communications officer, Mdu Ncalane said the municipality was aware of the issue, but was awaiting parts to get the traffic lights operational again.’

He said all motorists should treat the intersections as four-way stop zones in the meantime.
