Highway vendors go bananas over snake

There was a large black snake hiding under the banana crates

THERE was pandemonium at the banana seller station on the John Ross on Thursday afternoon when a snake made itself at home in one of the seller’s stalls.

The alarm was raised and when ‘Fearless’ Fred Lubbe arrived on the scene he was informed there was a large black snake hiding under the banana crates.

His immediate concern was that it may have been a highly venomous black mamba, but on removing the banana crates he was relieved to discover a far less dangerous but very feisty 1.5m olive grass snake, its venom not harmful to humans or pets.

Fred was easily able to capture the snake and released it on Friday morning far from where it could cause another bunch of panic.
