Shrimp, anyone?

Second mantis shrimp caught in a few weeks in the Bay

A SECOND mantis shrimp in as many weeks has been caught in Richards Bay waters, this time by angler Jan Small who was fishing at the steel bridge.

After baiting his hook up with a cracker prawn and casting into the water, Small felt little ‘nibbles’ and struck.

As a result, the hook went in to one of the mantis shrimp’s claws. Small won the fight and landed this rare catch which measured one foot in length.

‘This little guy was quite aggressive,’ said Small.

‘I managed to take some photos before successfully releasing the shrimp.’
