At the handover, Mhlongo said the programme served to restore dignity to residents.

‘The uMhlathuze Municipality has managed to deal with the backlog at the Dumisani Makhaye Village housing project, which has a total of 2 051 low-income houses.

‘Issuing title deeds to the owners of houses is a project we began years ago,’ said Mhlongo.

To also promote cleanliness in the area, about 800 trolley bins were handed over to residents who have been relying on community skips.

Mhlongo promised residents that two new phases are in the pipeline in the near future and the city is currently working on the installation of underground infrastructure.
