Myeni’s widow seeking SA citizenship

Lindsay Myeni is seeking South African citizenship in the hopes that her children, Nsizwa and Lindeni, can grow up in their father’s home country and learn more about their roots. Last week, Lindsay said a final goodbye to her late husband, Lindani who was shot dead by Hawaii police last month during an altercation.

Voter registration weekend set for July

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced that voter registration for the upcoming local government elections will take place on 17 and 18 July.
Over this weekend all 23 146 voting stations across the country will open from 8am to 5pm to assist new voters to register and existing voters to check and update their registration details.

Richards Bay residents urge city to prioritise infrastructure

Richards Bay residents shared their frustrations about power cuts, water supply interruptions and the state of public facilities during the uMhlathuze Municipality’s roadshow, held last week.
Following a presentation on the draft budget for the next three years, residents took the opportunity to express concerns about the negative impact recent blackouts have had on households and businesses, urging the municipality to prioritise infrastructure that will improve service delivery.

City of uMhlathuze residents will be given an opportunity to suggest new names for some streets. This is part of the municipality’s drive to name, rename and correct the spelling of streets within its jurisdiction.

Another sad dolphin death in Richards Bay shark nets

Already a highly endangered species, another humpback dolphin died after being snared in the shark nets off Alkantstrand last Wednesday.
Knowledge of the loss of the 184cm long female was distressing both to the members of the Richards Bay humpback dolphin research project as well as the KZN Sharks Board (SB), who manage the nets and drum lines on behalf of the uMhlathuze Municipality.
