Poachers plunder Richards Bay fish stocks again

The scourge of illegal gill net poaching in the harbour area continues unabated

THE scourge of illegal gill net poaching in the harbour area continues unabated – but it is being met with equal passion by local environmental volunteers.

Members of the North Coast Anti-Poaching group (NCAP) were out on the water again over the weekend, scoring another significant success.

Two poacher boats were seized, one of which sank, and four nets with a total length of 2.4km were recovered. No fewer than 53 grunters were found dead in the nets, along with two skates, while a further 33 live fish were released.

Grateful to the public for providing information, NCAP pleads for financial support, sponsor funding and donations for fuel and the various anti-poaching equipment required.
