GBV awareness hits Richards Bay streets

TAKING a proactive step towards combatting gender-based violence (GBV), Richards Bay SAPS last week led an awareness campaign through the streets of the CBD, distributing pamphlets.
The event was supported by the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, and community organisations LifeLine Zululand, SANCA Zululand and Alcoholics Anonymous.
Representatives targeted street vendors, businesses and shoppers, sharing information about their organisations and services, distributing information and resources and encouraging the public to access help should they need it.
Captain Michelle Michael said everyone knows at least one person who has been or is a victim of domestic violence, or has themselves encountered or been exposed to violence or abuse.
‘The informative pamphlets are an excellent way to share information and educate the public, and they can share it with their families, continuing to spread awareness,’ she said.
