Mhlathuze Water conducts community clean-up
Spearheaded by Mhlathuze Water's Environmental Management section, the aim of the clean-up is to create a culture of caring for the green environment within the local community.
MHLATHUZE Water embarked on a clean-up campaign at a local park in Dumisani Makhaye Village in Ngwelezana on Friday.

Mhlathuze Water staff members were joined by community volunteers, and members from the KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs as well as the Department of Water and Sanitation.
Cleaning equipment worth R10 000 was also donated to the Siyamthanda Community Service, a community organisation involved in the maintenance of green spaces.
These included wheelbarrows, hoes, rakes, spades and personal protective equipment.
‘Besides ensuring the supply of bulk water and waste water management, we are also seized with the responsibility of preventing environmental degradation,’ said Mhlathuze Water spokesperson, Siyabonga Maphumulo.
‘We derive water from the natural environment and have noted, with concern, that most of the waste from communities ends up in our rivers and streams, threatening the lives of animals and humans.’
During the clean-up, the team spread awareness among the community about the detrimental effects of pollution on the environment.
