Sport facilities for KwaHlabisa school
This forms part of the department's programme to introduce sport and recreation facilities to communities in townships and rural areas.
THE KZN Department of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation officially handed over a combination sport facility to the Intuthuko Special School in KwaHlabisa on Saturday.
This forms part of the department’s programme to introduce sport and recreation facilities to communities in townships and rural areas.

The combination court will be used by Intuthuko pupils, as well as neighbouring schools and community clubs for netball, volleyball, basketball and tennis.
MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Hlengiwe Mavimbela said the building of quality facilities ensured that youth from disadvantaged areas could showcase their talents.
‘This facility will benefit our children as it will give them an opportunity to play, because active bodies create active minds,’ said Mavimbela.
‘We are working closely with the Department of Education to ensure schools have the necessary sport infrastructure. Sport is important because it keeps our children occupied and keeps them away from negative activities. Students also perform better at school when they are active.’
Mavimbela said her department is building a number of sport facilities around Hlabisa, including a multi-coded sport complex which is currently under construction.
School principal, Mandla Khumalo said they are grateful to have such a facility. ‘Our children are special needs pupils and it’s important to develop their talents,’ said Khumalo.
‘We are grateful to the department for its support.’
