Two inmates escape from Qalakabusha Prison

The men aged 24 and 25 years old were serving a life and 22-year sentence respectively

TWO juvenile inmates are on the run after making a brazen escape from Qalakabusha Correctional Facility in Empangeni on Thursday (yesterday).
 
Department of Correctional Services KZN spokesperson Thulani Mdluli confirmed to the ZO that Mbongiseni Mpho Thusini (24) and Mfaniseni Mthembu (25) are still at large.
 
 
Thusini was serving a life sentence for murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, theft, possession of illegal firearms and ammunition and a further charge for human trafficking.
 
Mthembu was serving a 22-year sentence for rape.
 
Mdluli said an internal investigation is being conducted.
