WATCH: Gogo Chithekile (101) leads the way

A 101-year-old grandmother leads the way in getting her vaccine

HAVING survived a serious bout of Covid-19 earlier this year, during which time she lost her daughter Nelisiwe to the pandemic, a 101-year-old gogo from Current in Mzingazi has become the city’s face of the vaccination roll-out.

‘What better way to encourage our residents to take the vaccine than to show the brave example of Gogo Chithekile Hlabisa, who triumphed over adversity with all the odds stacked against her,’ said city mayor Cllr Mdu Mhlongo.

He was speaking at a vaccine launch function held at the senior citizen’s home on Thursday where the Department of Health performed the vaccination in front of a vast array of media and VIPs.

The dear old lady did not flinch as the jab was administered and even summoned up a few words of appreciation for the kindness shown towards her.

She praised God for granting her the gift of a long life and for delivering her from the throes of Covid death.
