SOCIAL media has been abuzz with the viral circulation of a poster stating that unvaccinated people would be restricted from certain public places.

The infographic, which appears to be from the United Arab Emirates, stipulates that from 20 August, entry to places such as restaurants, shopping centres, gyms, museums, schools and universities will only be allowed for those who are vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus.

The KZN Department of Health confirmed with the ZO that the department had not issued such a circular, and condemned the spread of fake news to spark fear and panic among citizens.

Vaccination update

KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala said during a media briefing yesterday (Wednesday) that as of 28 June, 416 967 senior citizens, 68 748 educators, and 130 546 health workers had been vaccinated in the province.

‘The total number of senior citizens registered on the Electronic Vaccination Data System currently stands at 553 279, from a target of just over 955 000 that we need to vaccinate,’ said Zikalala.

The province is now vaccinating on average 12 000 people per day. ‘We are intensifying vaccination of the elderly, and also increasing capacity in rural areas.

‘We urge all those who fall in the qualifying categories at this stage, to register on the database.

‘Let us increase the registration tempo.

‘If you have someone who is 60 years or older and is not vaccinated, please do something to assist.’
