A failed attempt at overtaking caused serious havoc on the N2 just past the Enseleni bridge on Friday evening.

A FAILED attempt at overtaking caused serious havoc on the N2 just past the Enseleni bridge on Friday evening.

A bakkie reportedly attempted to overtake just past the bridge but hit an oncoming car in the process and caused three other cars to pile up behind the initial collision.

The accident left one person dead, 10 seriously injured and seven more needing slight medical attention.

The collision severely impeded traffic flow for some time until the wreckage was cleared.

Emergency services and ambulances were on the scene quickly to tend to the patients, a number of which were minibus taxi passengers.

They were taken to various hospitals and to the Enseleni Clinic.
