Fred rescues ‘eggstremely’ small snake in Empangeni

On his arrival at the workshop in Kuleka, Fred was told the snake was in the back of the workshop under some clutter.

ACCUSTOMED to handling some of the most dangerous snakes in Zululand, Fred Lubbe was met with a pleasant surprise last week on a call-out to an Empangeni workshop.

On his arrival at the workshop in Kuleka, Fred was told the snake was in the back of the workshop under some clutter.

Once the clutter was removed, Fred was pleasantly surprised to find a cheeky little 20cm-long rhombic egg-eater with some rather extravagant markings.

Rhombic egg-eaters are harmless as, not only do they not have any venom, but they do not even have any teeth! They also feed primarily on eggs, hence the name.

The beautiful little snake was safely released on the same day, and it swiftly made it’s ‘eggsit’
