A weather warning, issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) on Thursday, indicates hail and snowfall this evening and tomorrow (Friday), which could lead to road closures.

KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Sipho Hlomuka has urged residents to exercise extreme caution on the roads and in households.

‘We are appealing to residents to ensure that generators are placed outside whenever they are in use, and for those using braziers to do so in a safe manner and in a well-ventilated area,’ said Hlomuka.

Motorists are encouraged to check weather forecasts prior to embarking on any trip. Disaster management teams will be monitoring high-risk routes.
