Kidnapped baby reunited with mom

A NEWBORN baby boy who was kidnapped at a bus station in Jozini last week, has been found.

The child was taken on 10 August, at just one day old, from the Mamlambo bus station after an unknown woman offered to carry the child while his mother was boarding a bus.

The woman disappeared with the baby while the mother was eating.

When the mother asked commuters about her child’s whereabouts, she was told that a silver-grey motor vehicle picked up the woman with the baby, and drove away.

KZN SAPS spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the baby was found in Ermelo, Mpumalanga with a 32-year-old woman.

‘Police received information on the baby’s whereabouts and immediately acted on it.

‘The Jozini and Ermelo Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit was immediately contacted, and the information was shared with them.

‘The Ermelo FCS unit arrested the woman while she was on her way to a clinic with the child’s vaccination card.’

Gwala confirmed that the child had been reunited with his mother.
