WARNING: Severe weather in upper KZN

Certain parts of KZN warned to lock down ahead of severe weather storm

A SEVERE weather warning has been sent from the SA Weather Service, following a surface trough that is over central parts of the country, with an upper-air trough over the eastern parts.

These conditions, coupled with high instability indices, are expected to result in scattered showers and thunderstorms over the north-western parts of KZN.

These thunderstorms are expected to start this evening into tomorrow morning and are expected to be accompanied by heavy downpours, hail, lightning and strong winds.

Affected areas in KZN include Amajuba, Uthukela and parts of Limzinyathi districts.

Impacts from this weather will cause localised damage to infrastructure, settlements and livestock, as well as cause flooding of low-lying roads and bridges.

There will also be localised damage to structures and vehicles due to hail plus fire incidents due to lightning and injuries due to flying debris.

These conditions are expected to last from 7pm today to 4am tomorrow.
