Gogo inspires young man’s winning artwork

Pongola security guard announced BIC Art Master of South Africa

From security guard to showcasing his artistic talent to the world, Pongola’s Astral Msekeli (22) is flying the Zululand flag high.

The young man was recently announced among the winning top 3 of the prestigious BIC Stationery Art Master Africa competition, having won the South African competition with this artwork titles Ubuntu.

He shared the continent’s top three spots with Badr Labied of Morocco and Stanley Were of Kenya.

The annual BIC Art Master Africa competition encourages artists across Africa and the Middle East to showcase their creativity and create a piece of art using the iconic BIC ball pen.

‘Creativity is important to me because it allows me to open up my mind to new thoughts on life in general. I found out about the competition on Facebook and knew I had to enter.

Ubuntu was inspired by my 91-year-old grandmother who told me to value every aspect of life and to have compassion for every living being,’ said Msekeli.

His dream is to open an art centre to offer young artists space to create and showcase their work.
