POLICE are searching for the owner of a red VW Polo which was the cause of an accident on the John Ross highway on Wednesday morning.

No deaths or injuries were reported when the abandoned Polo was rear-ended by a bakkie on the R34 between Bhizola bridge and Alton.

Police suspect the Polo has been stolen.

The bakkie driver told the Zululand Observer that he was driving on the left lane and rounding a curve when he was suddenly confronted by the Polo partially parked in the road.

‘I could not swerve to avoid hitting it as another car was passing on my right and I could not brake in time.’
